fandom: Glee, pairing: Blaine/ Kurt, rating: PG, word count: approximately 690 words
Disclaimer: I do not own Glee and the characters used in this story. This is only fiction, created for non-profitable purpose.
A/N: Patterned from the movie 'My Girl'. I don't really watch Glee, so I'm pretty sure I wasn't able to capture the 'voices' of the characters.
My AU Bingo card
Kurt was ten when they moved to Madison. It was a huge change from the city and Kurt found it hard to adjust. Kids at school called him 'city boy,' which wasn't so bad until the tag started to sound more like an insult, often followed by a series of sniggering.
It didn't help that his dad had the weirdest, if not the creepiest, profession: a funeral director. It was because business seemed promising in this small town – which was a creepy thought in itself – that Kurt had no choice but to accept the fact that this was home now. If he hadn't met his best friend, Blaine, then life would be hell.
It was the summer before Kurt and Blaine moved on to sixth grade when Kurt's life began to change. Curiosity crept behind him like a thief in the night and Kurt found himself edging towards the territory most kids his age were either terrified or enthused to explore: pre-adolescent crushes. What was more perturbing in Kurt's case was learning that he didn't find girls appealing. Boys, on the other hand, stirred up his interests, finding them attractive. Quite coincidentally, his friend Blaine had the same dilemma.
Every single day that summer, Kurt and Blaine would ride their bicycles and head over to the river side where they had claimed a spot beneath a very old tree. Its long branch extended like an outstretched limb over the water. Kurt and Blaine would spend hours sitting near the end of the elongated stem, their feet nearly touching the surface of the river.
"Do you think we'd still be friends ten years from now?" Blaine asked in that I wonder what the future would bring tone he often used.
Kurt made a psh sound. "Of course. We'll be friends forever," he said, aiming to reassure Blaine but if he were to be honest, he wasn't entirely sure. He was no clairvoyant, after all.
They did a spit shake to seal the B.F.F deal, but that didn't seem enough. So Kurt took his 'I love Michael Jackson' pin off and pricked his finger, urging Blaine to do the same. "Now we have a blood pact," he said, rubbing the thick red substance seeping out of the pad of his pointing finger against Blaine's.
It wasn't until near the end of the summer when Kurt found the courage to ask Blaine what it was like to be kissed.
"I wouldn't know. I haven't kissed anyone," Blaine said but he was quick to add, "except my mom and my dad."
"But aren't you curious?" Kurt tilted his head, amused by the way the shade of scarlet spread across Blaine's face.
"Of course I am." Blaine couldn't meet Kurt's eyes and he kept swaying his legs, making the branch bounce precariously.
When Kurt bluntly uttered, "Would you like to try it?" Blaine's head snapped up and he stared at Kurt with eyes as round as saucers.
A calm veneer soon smoothed out the look of bewilderment and Blaine's lips curved into a small, shy smile. He nodded, shrugged and said, "Sure," almost inaudibly.
Kurt wasn't really expecting Blaine would agree but he was thrilled about the prospect of sharing his first kiss with his best friend. He brings his face close to Blaine's, giving Blaine time to change his mind. But Blaine didn't flinch, just closed his eyes and puckered his lips. Pushing down the urge to laugh at how ridiculously cute Blaine looked, Kurt inched closer, his eyelids sliding shut.
When Kurt felt his lips touch the surface of Blaine's chapped ones, his eyes sprang open, only to stare straight into bright hazel orbs.
"Um…" The tip of Blaine's tongued peeked between his lips. "That was interesting."
"Yeah," is the only coherent word Kurt's befuddled brain could form.
They rode back home in silence and only when they stopped in front of Kurt's house did Blaine speak, "Kurt?" It hurt to see the uncertainty clouding his handsome face. "Are we okay?"
Kurt didn't even resist the smile that tugged at the corners of his mouth. "You bet. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah. See you tomorrow."
