Title: LIKE A RAINBOW
Author: [livejournal.com profile] clover71
Fandom: American Idol
Pairing: David Cook/ David Archuleta; (past) David Cook/ Ryan Star
Rating: R
Description: AU. This is a sequel to Like A Symphony but can also be read alone. Written for [livejournal.com profile] au_bigbang 2011. This is probably my first attempt to write a romantic comedy.
Word count: 28,800+ words
Summary:
Cook is working on a new novel and one of his published stories is being turned into a movie. Archie is caught up in the whirlwind of headlining tours and everything that comes with the package of popularity. Will their relationship survive the storm and will there be a rainbow at the end of it all?
Disclaimer:
1) Please note that this is purely fiction and none of the contents are real except for all or some of the characters used in this story.
2) Most character names used are based on real people but the details within do not purposely imply occurrences in real life; thus, anything here that concurs with real events may be completely coincidental.
3) This fiction is created from the imagination of the author and for non-profitable purpose.
4) Some of the scenes in this story are based on scenes cut from TV Series and movies and certain dialogues from 'When In Rome' and 'Stepmom' have been borrowed from the actual movie. I do not claim rights over those phrases and copyright remains with the original screenwriters. Please refer to author's notes for details. No plagiarism intended.
5) Some dialogues used are borrowed from song lyrics, specifically lines from 'The Last Goodbye' by David Cook. I do not claim ownership of these lines. Copyright remains with David Cook, the label (RCA), 19 Recordings Ltd, and co-writer, Ryan Tedder. No plagiarism intended.

Author's Note(s):
- A million thanks to my friend, [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe_bass for being so patient, for holding my hand whenever I freaked out over this story and for doing the initial beta.

- My love goes to my friend, [livejournal.com profile] pixie_queen24 for doing the final beta stages and for letting me use her name as David Archuleta's manager in the story. I love you brain twin!

- This may have been beta'ed but I may have missed some corrections, so please excuse any mistakes left. I also made tons of changes post-beta, re-wrote some scenes at the last minute and didn't have time to send it back to my betas for checking so if any of those contain errors, I am solely responsible for them.

- This, as I've written in the description, is a sequel to Like A symphony. I originally planned to use a different story for AU BigBang this year but based on the plot outline I've laid out, it will take me ages to write it so I had to come up with another story and I thought of continuing Like A Symphony since there were a few plotlines I failed to include in that fic because I wrote it in a hurry. This is my (probably futile) attempt in writing a romantic comedy.

- Some of the scenes here are spoofs inspired by scenes from TV series and movies. There's one scene from the Argentine soap called 'Botineras' with David Cook and Ryan Star. Another scene with David Archuleta and Benton Paul is from 'Look Who's Talking 2'. The car scene with David Cook and his band is from 'When In Rome'. There's one other scene with David Archuleta and Ryan Star that was inspired by a scene from the movie 'Stepmom'. Sorry I couldn't specify which scenes they are, otherwise I'll be giving too much spoilers.

- Some of the dialogues were borrowed from the actual movie it was based on. 1) The phrase 'Who made this car anyway? Fisher Price?' is from the movie 'When In Rome' and I'm not claiming ownership, copyright and credit remains with screenwriters David Diamond and David Weissman. No plagiarism intended. 2) Another dialogue borrowed is from the movie 'Stepmom' which is the phrase "Dick head and Fuck wit, I know. But what in the heck is snow blowing?" Copyright remains with the screenwriter, Georgianne Levangie.

- Some dialogues used are from lyrics of the song 'The Last Goodbye' by David Cook.

- This was initially called 'Like A Melody' following the concept of the prequel's title (which is a musical term). But it seems inappropriate so I changed it to 'Like A Rainbow' with the idea of the characters showing their true colors throughout the story. The current title is from the song 'True Colors' by Cyndi Lauper.

And I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
