Summary: Something happened to Makoto, something unimaginable that eventually became a nightmare not just for him but for his friends Haru and Rin as well.

- This fic features Free! characters in Tokyo Ghoul setting. If you're not familiar with Tokyo Ghoul, I suggest you Google it to have an idea so you'll know what to expect.
- If you're a big fan of Makoto, you might not want to read this because you wouldn't like how I wrote him here. I practically turned him to Kaneki Ken, except not exactly. I may have followed the concept of Tokyo Ghoul, but I didn't follow the plot religiously.
- Though the pairing is Rin/Haru or Haru/Rin, this story isn't focused on their relationship so don't expect any romantic scenes between them. It is, however, clearly emphasized that they're in a relationship.
- Since this was set in another fandom's setting, then this may be considered Alternate Universe/ AU

- This was inspired by a paragraph from High Speed! 2 (High Speed is the novel the anime Free! was based from and a second book - about Haru's life in middle school and Rin's life in Australia - was released at the same time the season 2 of anime came out. There isn't a complete English translation yet, but I saw bits and pieces from tumblr) where Rin's grandmother was talking to Souhei, Asahi's (Haru's new teammate in his middle school swim club) father, and Rin's grandmother revealed she has heard about Haruka Nanase, saying:

"Nanase’s the boy Rin went so far as to transfer schools chasing, after all. You can’t imagine how shocked I was when I heard that was the reason!"

My shipping heart exploded.

- Ignoring Ash's intro in the B&W series, I believe Ash has aged since he started out on his journey so I'm making him thirteen at the beginning of the fic and Paul is maybe a year or two older. They'll grow up as the fic progresses.
- I am obviously reliving the Diamond and Pearl series. The Black and White seasons haven't grown on me yet. I kinda miss Brock and Paul and Ash's Sinnoh Pokémon team. (I miss Chimchar! Or… Infernape, I guess)
- I am desperately trying to write this in 3rd person POV omniscient, which I haven't done for years so some chapters may turn out to be written in 3rd person POV limited with switching POVs.
- The underage kissing warning only applies to the real world but this is Pokémon world where children, once they reach the age of 10, are allowed to set out on a journey to faraway lands without adult supervision so I'm guessing that's considered the legal age in this universe.

The Twelve Days of Christmas are the festive days beginning on Christmas Day (December 25). This period is also known as Christmastide. The Twelfth Day of Christmas is January 5 - the day before the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6.

- This is the first year that I included fics for other fandoms in the collection and I had a blast writing each story. I guess this year, it's more of a gift for myself, an award for being able to step out of my comfort zone and explore other fandoms. I liked it. It's kinda liberating. - This isn't the fic I originally started writing as second entry for the au_bigbang. I was supposed to use the Cookleta-Belami crossover, but that fic is turning out to be too long and the plot keeps changing so I thought I'd start a new one and write a movie-based fic instead. So I ended up with this.

- This fic is based on the movie 'Dante's Peak'. Majority of the scenes were inspired by the movie. Also, there may be dialogues from the movie that I ended up using, but that wasn't intentional. This was written in a span of 10 days so chances are I have been unconsciously writing from memory of what I've watched.

- Thank you so much to pixie_queen24 for doing the beta at such short notice, despite her very busy schedule. Please note that the last 2 parts were not beta'ed because RL caught up with her. But I decided to post anyway so I have 1 less fic out of the way. Any remaining mistakes on the first three parts are all mine. And thank you to my dear friend radcliffe_bass for holding my hand throughout this project. Even though she thinks I'm crazy for starting on a new fic barely 2 weeks before I'm scheduled to post.

- There are several things I have invented to make the story work somehow. So please note that Fuller's Peak, Mount Cimehtna (if read backwards, it's 'Anthemic'), Archuleta's Bed and Breakfast Inn among others do not exist. At least to my knowledge. And I have no idea if there's a volcanic and seismic research facility in L.A. You will also noticed that I used the acronym S.E.A.C.R.E.S.T. for a robot, but I cannot come up with a meaning. It will be interesting if you, readers, can suggest what it may possibly stand for.

- This fic is dedicated to everyone in my f-list and those who had been reading my fics. You guys know who you are and I love you all.

Author's Notes:
1) The concept of this story was inspired by a Harlequin, American Romance Novel that I have read ages ago called 'Second Chances' written by Tracy Hughes. While I remember bits and pieces of the story, this fic wasn't based entirely on the novel's plot since I don't possess a copy and could not recall the details. But the basic idea and flow of the story is similar to the published novel and please note, as stated in the disclaimer, that this is merely written for the challenge and not intended for profit.

2) BelAmi Online is an adult film company that specializes in gay porn films, where all actors/ male models use screen names to hide their real identities. None of them had publicly disclosed their family background, thus, names of BelAmi model's relatives indicated in the story were merely invented, unless the relative used is likewise a BelAmi model. Specifically, Dolph's father in the story, Devlin Lambert, is one of the original characters I created.

3) I am uncertain if the town 'Fairfield' (where Dolph resides) does exist. I was trying to create an original place similar to Nancy Drew having River Heights, so 'Fairfield' is the name that popped in my head.

4) Regardless of the fact that this fic had been beta'ed, I have done a few modifications post-beta stage. Also, the fact that there were two lovely betas who worked on this story, I had to use MSWord's 'compare document' function and since I admittedly do not have 20/20 vision anymore, there may be corrections that I have overlooked so any mistakes left are all entirely my fault.

5) Please make sure you check the end notes for some resources used to make this story believable somehow.
